Infinite Echoes

Last night I went to an in-store performance by Hammock, given at the (tr)indie-cool record shop Grimey’s. Actual hammocks would have been nice, as the lush, beatless sound of infinitely shimmering guitar echoes blanketed the room for roughly a half hour or so. It’s amazing the amount of sound that can come out of two guitars, one keyboard, one cello, and a bajillion effects pedals. It’s the sonic equivalent of galaxies slowly being formed.

Their new record is entitled Maybe They Will Sing For Us Tomorrow, and is adorned with artwork by the lead singer of Sigur Ros. Slow, peaceful, beautiful, austere, thoughtful, reminiscent and intentionally lost. Check it out.
